How to Twitter - Part One : Why Twitter? Get signed up
How to Twitter - Part Two : Setting up your Profile
How to Twitter - Part Three: Follow and Get Followed
How to Twitter - Part Four: Replies, Direct Messages
In this part we'll discuss a few of the other things you can do on Twitter Web.
Part Six - Third Party Twitter Applications
It's been so much fun seeing the people come from this ActiveRain tutorial to the wild world of Twitter... and jump right in! Makes me proud :) It gives me the fuel to keep the tutorial going, that's for sure.
FAVORITES:
You can favor a tweet by clicking on the star. It will be saved in your "favorite" tab/page. You can access your favorites directly by going to http://Twitter.com/favorites (after you are logged in).
Here are mine (I should use it more) -

(Yes, you can earn a twit designation from @LindaDavis, lol)
RETWEETING:
As you can see above, @FresYes thought @SarahWV said something good enough to be "retweeted" so he put "RT" (you can also spell out RETWEET) before sending it again.
LINKING:
First, a small soap-box chat, do not only link up your own stuff if you want people to read it. Chris Brogan, aka Mr. Social Media, suggests you link up other people 12 times more than your own stuff. Because you are only allowed 140 characters, it's helpful to use URL shortening services like Tiny URL, Snurl, is.gd etc.
BUTTONS:
Ok... you're ready for a couple shortcuts now that you know your way around the long way (sorry I think it's important to know the long way first :)
REPLY- When you are at the twitter home page, if you mouse over to the right of a tweet, you will notice the STAR and an ARROW. If you click on the arrow, twitter will fill in the @reply for you.
TRASH- If you go to your archive (click on your picture or name) - when you mouseover you will notice a TRASH CAN, I'm sure you can figure out what that's for.
Stay tuned for Part Six.

We need more of this.
Kim, thank you for taking the time to explain Twitter and sharing.

Thanks for sharing - I will have to take the time to look at it and give it a try!
Thanks for the info Kim, I still havent figured that twitter thing out yet lol
Kim,
I truly enjoy the "how to" articles that our members write here. They are very helpful------don't know if I'm going to Twitter yet. Still thinking about that one.
Kim, thanks for the RT thing, see I didn't even know how to do that. I've seen it many times but wasn't sure how it was done. I use sharealcholic if I am reading something interesting.
I see so many blogs about twitter..can you tell me what it is all about....
You are soooo generous with your knowledge. Thanks. Probably saved me hours trying to figure this stuff out on my own.
Awesome, Kim. I am finally getting some use out of Twitter! Actually, I had a client on the fence about some land. There was competition on the lot, but the other buyers had pulled back when the stock market took a dive. Then I got a tweet from WSJ about the market rebound, and my people were ready to write! Hallelujah!
Looks like you may have found a twitniche, and a tweet voice. Love your series Kim, the shirt cracked me up, and because of my tweeting habit, I'll keep this comment to 140 char. :-)
Good Twitter pointers Kim. So many new people who try Twitter don't get it in the beginning...maybe this will help a few of them.
Twitter? What in the world is Twitter? Sounds like a bird social networking site. :)
Kim, I'm so sorry I wasn't following your series. I plan to start at the first today and learn this. I joined twitter a few weeks ago. But truthfully, I haven't figured it out. If I don't after reading all 5 parts, you'll be hearing from me!!! LOL
Hi Kim;
I will start from part #1 and learn from your post. Thank you!!!!!!!
Hi Kim, Thanks again, I learned a few things as well.. God bless,
Kim, I can use all the twitter help I can get these days! Thank you. Now I need to go back and review 2 & 3!
Thanks for the tutorial - I'm getting the hang of it now.
I am like several others - stumbled across this post first. Now I need to go back and start from your first post regarding twitter, since I do not have an account yet. Thanks for the "How to Twitters".
I just got back from NAR and I was again reminded that I should be tweeting. I am still trying to figure out what to twit. I appreciate your great "how to" to get me going.
Thanks Kim, you must have been a teacher in a former life -- you are so organized. I appreciate you breaking it down into episodes like you did. I love tweeting too!
You lost me at welcome to part 4!!
Hey Kim,
Thanks so MUCH! I finally had the time to explore your Twitter instructions and found not one, but two!, ways to reply. You're the best! I'll keep watching and Tweeting.
Judy
HUGE!!! Thanks -- learned more in ten minutes scanning your post than reading every word of some other post -- Thanks .. just getting started this was a massive help @EllisJason
Kim, I've been tweeting for a couple of weeks and just stumbled upon your posts. Excellent instructions and most valuable is your personal experience, insight and suggestions. Thanks!
@GwenDaubenmeyer
Kim, I'm going to keep thanking you for introducing me to Twitter. I've met some very interesting people, read blogs I never would have found otherwise and was even invited to Twitter about the Election at our local National Public Radio station on election night all from being on Twitter thanks to your tutorial!
Kim, Thank you so much for your help on Twitter, Your universal deposit of giving will be returned to your ten fold :)
This is great...thank you for your tutorials....how did you do your fancy page though?
Thanks for the info. I did not knw about retweeting.
Kim,
Thanks for the helpful information I now have much better understanding how twitter works
will be taking advantage of them.
Kim - I just went through the whole tutorial. Thanks for all of the info, but what I am not getting is why my posts to AR are not showing up. Do you know why that would happen? I have it in the settings to send them to Twitter.
This is awesome, thanks so much for all of the twitter posts!
So, should I assume that Twittering will also help with my Google site placement?
aloha kim - thanks for the parts setup. at first i think i get it; then i seem to get constipated. LOL i'm following you. thanks for offering.
Kim, how do you get people that you are following to follow you on Twitter? I'm now following you but I dont' think that you are following me so you are not responding to my questions. There are also two more people that I'm following that I want to follow me back?
Twitter is not intuitive at all. Thanks for the advise.
thanks
I finally just jumped in with Twitter after avoiding it for probably a year. I just read all five parts to see if I have missed anything. I have had people follow me and when I went to see their profile, it was blank - so I learned about blocking and they have to appprove me - now I wonder if I should have reciprocated but don't know who they were now. Thanks
Kim....Ive read the entire series.....and this is the first one I have commented on, I think....
YOU are a stud! Just sayin...
@recr
I havent completely dedicated myself to twitter yet. Learning the fundamentals is always the best way to go and then it seems to come so much easier.
Im going to try this, sounds like fun.
Kim- You have been extremely generous of your time and expertise and allowed me to get beyond most of the trial and error that I have been engaged in. I am beginning to twitter with confidence. Stumbling upon your post on AR reminds me of what I learned a long time ago (all of two years) when I first joined AR and had forgotten. The network is a wonderful group of professionals who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise. We only have to make the effort to find them.
I would also like to add that I avoided twitter for a long time, despite positive axxounts. It is not as frivolous as it sounds or appears at first encounter.
Thank you!
@kimwood.. found you on twitter..from @FloridaSunSales can't wait to get to network with you!
Thanks so much for the explanation and directions. I hope to check it out over my week "off" coming up!
haanks for the tutorial. I am still getting used to all of this.
Good Stuff. I am using Hahlo now on my iPhone with excellent results - much better than the m.twitter.com default for mobile web users. FYI!
Kim, Thanks so much for the great posts. There is so much to learn and so many wonderful people like you to help along the way. Loved all 5 parts, now to get started and waiting to see part six.
Mike Nastri - Franklin TN
Kim, that is great info, thanks for sharing with us!

I am new to Twitter and I really appreciate this tutorial as a foundation to start from. It was very helpful.
Thanks so much ...I think it is starting to sink in
I am exhausted from Parts 1-4, bookmarking and taking a break, back later...
OK, now I am back... did part 5 but can't find part 6???????????????? Freaking out, I've come to rely on you Kim???????????? Help, I am floundering... However, I do now have 31, yes, I said 31!!!!!! followers - all because of you! Do I get it yet, not entirely... but much better than I did 2 days ago... See, they were wrong, you can teach old dogs new tricks...
Thanks for this post Kim. It has been most helpful. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I asked my "techy" friends, "Why would anyone follow me, I am not going anywhere" and they laughed like crazy, said that's one for Jay Leno, but I wasn't trying to be funny. Someday, maybe I will get it.
Kim, Thank you for the Twitter help! I've recently started using it in the last couple of weeks, and this is some really helpful information!
Ok, I'm on there but I'm wondering..how is this different than the facebook status updates? and I have to find a way to easily see the updates...i know it's ouut there!
Hey Kim: Thanks so much for this series. I use twitter on a semi-regular basis. I consider myself a novice. I have tried to get pointers from others, but it appears most people there are out to sell to make money with one scam or another. I was very happy to find your post. You have done a very good job. Kudos!!
